As part of a collaborative trial at Exeter Airport, the UK’s first hydrogen-powered live aircraft turnaround was successfully completed using ULEMCo’s green hydrogen ground support vehicle. This initiative, delivered in partnership with TUI, Cranfield University, MULAG, and Boeing, and supported by the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s Hydrogen Challenge programme, marks important progress in the practical deployment of hydrogen technologies within the aviation sector.
The outcomes of this trial will inform future safety and regulatory frameworks for airside hydrogen handling — a vital step toward the broader adoption of hydrogen-powered aircraft and the decarbonisation of ground operations.
