Synaptec MD wins Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Founder and managing director of Synaptec, Dr Philip Orr, has won the Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the University of Strathclyde’s Company Creation Conference held on May 1st 2019.
Equity Gap portfolio company, Synaptec has developed and manufactures the world’s first and only completely passive solution for distributed electrical and mechanical sensing. Its patented technologies can be adapted to meet the diverse needs of customers operating the world’s most complex and modern power systems, offshore wind farms, and private industrial power systems such as railways.
Prior to founding Synaptec, Philip was Scotland’s first Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow, and a researcher at the University of Strathclyde’s Institute for Energy and Environment. His doctoral work focused on photonic instrumentation for fusion reactors in collaboration with the UK Atomic Energy Authority, and he is the recipient of a number of engineering prizes, including the Sir William Siemens Medal and the EPSRC Doctoral Prize.
